In life, every person, book, movie, and more contains a worldview or vision of life as a whole. Lao Tzu says a worldview is: “When people see some things as beautiful, others become ugly. When people see some things as good, others become bad.” Despite the fact that most people, movies, books, and other components of life don't realize they have a worldview, they actually do. A specific example of an element in society that contains a worldview is the action-packed, world-famous book titled Divergent. This specific element contains an amazing plot, worldview, and purpose to attract the attention of people around the world. Beatrice Prior lives in a dystopian world in Chicago. Society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to maintaining a particular virtue defined as Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the courageous), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). . Being a member of Abnegation, Beatrice must decide whether or not to change sides and possibly leave her family forever. Each 16-year-old must take the aptitude test to determine which faction is best suited. Due to inconclusive aptitude test results, Beatrice struggles to identify with a specific faction. Ultimately deciding on Dauntless, Beatrice encounters numerous obstacles while competing alongside other initiates, as a result of being Divergent in a Dauntless atmosphere. Undergoing fierce training, Beatrice changes her name to Tris, symbolizing her victory over fear. The scene shifts to Tris discovering that the Erudite faction wants to overthrow the Abnegation government by mind-controlling the Dauntless army. D... middle of paper... movies, books, and even people fail to realize that they hold a worldview of life. A worldview is something like a pair of glasses. It is the lens through which all life is viewed. In essence, a worldview is the basis on which any film, book, or person views the world. Divergent is just one of the countless elements of life that contain a worldview. Works Cited “Worldview Quotes.” (53 citations).
