March 25, 2014Scientists have determined the natural order of the world for countless years; their research provides awareness of our earth's past to help us for the future. Ilya Bindeman believes this is entirely true for the supervolcano in Yellowstone National Park. He says the volcano is likely to produce an apocalyptic eruption as it has already happened three times in the last 2 million years. Bindeman is an associate professor of geological sciences in Oregon. He devoted thousands of hours of research to his nearly 140 paper reports on volcanology and isotopic geochemistry. Volcanology is simply the study of volcanoes, -ology gives the meaning of "to study" when added to the end of a word. Isotopic geochemistry deals with determining the age of a rock based on its isotopic value, somewhat like estimating the age of a tree based on its rings in the trunk. Basically, he is considered someone who knows a lot about rocks. When Bindeman came out to the public with his research, he wanted to not only let people know they were not in danger, but also educate the public. H...
