At the Border Every year more than ten million people immigrate to the United States from Mexico, most with the hope of making a better life. As more and more Mexicans settle in the United States, concern for our nation's security is called into question. There has been debate about whether the U.S. government should build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. Despite the belief that a wall could help with the heavy drug trafficking brought into the United States and with the immigration issue in the United States, a wall should not be built because it would not be effective nor would it promote peace between the United States and Mexico . in a poll, 51% of people wanted a wall to be built on the border with Mexico (Fox News). In 1994, Republicans took land between Tijuana and San Diego and built a triple fence (O'Reilly). While building the fence could have put an end to the area's problems, it would be just another obstacle that many would soon be able to overcome. Even less A fence is not something that people see and immediately try to prevent from crossing it. Republican Duncan Hunter says building the wall is not just immigration border control, but a “national security issue” (Impact). While the security of our nation is a primary and obligatory issue, what kind of message is this sending to Mexico? The wall would lead to even more rebellion, crime and complacency on both sides. Building a fence is not a goal that will simply stop any crime or illegal immigration into the United States. In addition to the few people who believe that a wall would be the end of all problems at the border, there are many who argue that the wall is ineffective. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger touts the idea of using high-tech equipment and more patrols to protect the border (Schwarzenegg...... middle of paper......m unwanted danger. Building a wall would keep the two countries from Solidarity .Together the United States and Mexico can bring neutrality to build a better future for the region. Works Cited O'Reilly, Bill.
