Economics is basically evaluating trade-offs when making a decision since we have scarce resources and we can't do everything, so we try to allocate scarce resources as efficiently as possible. A couple of economic decision principles that I find important to the question of evaluating trade-offs are the principle of the production possibilities frontier, opportunity cost, and scarcity. In economics most of the principles are intertwined, so even though they are similar concepts it is important to use the necessary key concepts while making a decision as this implies subtle differences. The three elective courses I'm thinking of choosing are painting, contemporary history, and Mandarin. Each concept will choose a path that follows its guiding principle of efficiency as each concept has a subtle difference in the meaning of efficiency. The production possibilities frontier principle is useful in getting you to think about possible combinations of outputs given your scarce resources shown in a graph to help you analyze the options you have available. To explain how I can use this concept to help me choose my course, two parameters I can use to evaluate courses are the grade I will get in the course if I use the time to study, and the other is the total salary Can I get the semester using the study time allocated to the course in a part-time job. Since we use an economic model, this is built on the assumption that I will allocate 10 hours per week to the course. For the three courses the total salary for the semester that I will receive if I use the 10 hours to do a part-time job is 1,600 and the grades I will get for each if I dedicate 10 hours to study are 4.0 in Contemporary History, 3.7 in Mandarin and 3.3 in painting. If I...... middle of paper...... is contemporary history. While we are thinking about the problem for the university environment and the main goal of a student is to gain knowledge about many disciplines but there is no quantifiable way to measure it except for grades which are the key metric highlighted by students and it is rational that let them choose a course that should give them the best grade. It is possible that choosing paint or tangerine is an inefficient or illogical decision, but it is a commonplace as one might evaluate other elements of one's life in addition to the concept of efficiency. There are many metrics you can use to make a decision that can cause people to make different choices on the premise. If I am making a decision, the logical answer is contemporary history as it follows the key principle of economics that one should try to choose the most efficient option given the limited nature of our resources..
