1.) What is communication in your opinion? Discuss various elements of communication and use scenes or aspects of the film to illustrate your point. Communication, by my means, is a way for two or more people to interact or influence each other. It's a way to discover our world without having to travel miles or spend millions. Communication is the most important aspect in our human society, without it the chances of survival are limited. There are approximately five key elements of communication and each is involved in parallel processing, where both individuals initiate the communication process. Some of the elements include the source (sender), message, channel, recipient, and feedback. Each element simplifies the communication process, so we are able to see what happens from the moment a word is spoken from the person's mouth to the message the listener receives. In the movie "Shattered Glass", a young journalist named Stephen Glass fell from his lightning throne and into a bottomless abyss of lies and disorder. He was found to have invented twenty-seven of the forty-one stories published in The New Republic in the last three years. As I watch the end of Stephen Glass' writing career, there were three elements of communication that Glass used that were also used against him. The first element, for example, is feedback, where the recipient's response to your behavior that you have generated towards them. In the scene where Glass notices that her colleagues are unimpressed with her writing, he immediately says that they hate her and call her horrible. He continues to despise himself by begging his colleges to help him edit his paper, otherwise he wouldn't turn it in. After not seeing…half of the paper…ways that are favorable to you. It is easy to manipulate someone, but in the long run it is the harsh ethical judgment that makes the process more difficult. Works CitedRay, B. (Director). (2003). Shattered Glass [Film].
