Capital PunishmentDoes the government have the right to "play God"?When researching this topic, the available information against capital punishment is overwhelming. This alone does not reflect why my attitude and beliefs on the subject have changed. The sanctity of life is priceless. I am convinced that only God has the authority to decide when our time on Earth should end. Ronald Carlson's sister was murdered. in 1983 in Texas. Before his sister's death, he had stressed that he neither condemned nor agreed with capital punishment. Carlson recalled feelings of extreme hatred for his sister's killer. Carlson stated, "Watching the execution left me with horror and emptiness, confirming what I had already realized: Capital punishment only continues violence that has a powerful and corrosive effect on society." (DIPC. ndWeb. April 28, 2014.) National Geographic endorses an article by Alex Manning, “5 Surprising Facts About the Death Penalty Around the World.” The five facts are:1. The United States ranks fifth for the most executions.2. Saudi Arabia saw the execution of a man by crucifixion.3. China keeps its execution numbers secret.4. Executions in Japan actually increased in 2012, after a long hiatus.5. Last year only 21 countries in the world applied the death penalty. (Manning, Alex. 2013. Web. April 28, 2014.) According to an article published in Time Magazine and written by Chris Wilson, executions have been carried out in various ways in the United States since the early 1700s, 15,717 people have been put to death according to the law of capital punishment. From 1700 to 1800, during the days of the Salem witches, 65 fires ended lives. Again, 1800 to 1850, 130 ...... half of paper ......nt. The costs are exorbitant and in no way serve as a deterrent to society. Is this justice for the victim or the victim's family? The murders in the United States are staggering. Life imprisonment doesn't work. Without law order does not exist. The scales of justice must be equally balanced, otherwise the result will be anarchy and chaos. However, capital punishment doesn't work either. What about the person convicted of murder who is innocent thanks to technology 12 years later? Our flawed justice system can convict the innocent because we are human and make mistakes. With this in mind, I strongly disagree that a judge or jury decides whether a person should live or die. Those who support capital punishment feel the same passion as those who oppose it. The sanctity of life is priceless. Support our laws or try to change them. I think it's time to change them.
