The group of men dumped imported tea and further eroded relations with Britain. After the Boston Tea Party, the colonist refused to drink British tea. As stated in Tom Gage's Proclamation, “While the rebels in these parts are still obstinate, and continue to resist; Still refusing to drink their tea, despite me and Parliament." Furthermore, the English were becoming annoyed by the actions of the colonists. Therefore, the British passed the Intolerable Acts. The Intolerable Acts, as the name suggests, infuriated the colonists. The English had passed the Intolerable Acts precisely to punish the Massachusetts colonist. The Acts consisted of the closure of Massachusetts Bay, until tea was paid for, and a new Quartering Act, which allowed British troops to be stationed in private homes if necessary. Furthermore, it gave the power to the crown to elect all officials
