In The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins expresses two themes. The first is that we cannot allow the government to use its power to treat and use people however they want, because they oppress them. “At one o'clock we leave the square. Attendance is mandatory unless you are on death's door. This evening the officers will come to check if this is the case. Otherwise you will be imprisoned." (Collins, 16) we can see that the Capitol forces people to participate in the harvest by threatening them. “When I was younger, I scared my mother to death, telling the things I told about District 12, about the people who rule our country, Panem, from the distant city called the Capitol. I eventually realized that this would only lead us to more problems. So I learned to hold my tongue and turn my features into an indifferent mask so that no one could ever read my thoughts.“ (Collins, 06) Katniss must save her feelings and not show them in District 12 because inside she knows of being a devil, but he has to show people how strong he can be in the games, also Katniss censors herself due to the fears her mother has towards the government. People are afraid of the government, the Capitol inspires fear and that's one of the reasons they make games, to make people afraid and not attack them. The government has total control over the people, they are not free because they have to do all the things they want. Another theme is that true love is the strongest feeling in the world. Katniss was completely in love with Gale, they did many things together, like spending all day hunting in the woods and talking about their future.
