Jeni SacklowMr. Lynch APUSHJ.FK: three letters recognizable to almost all Americans. Behind those three letters lies the legacy of one of the most memorable presidents in American history: John Fitzgerald Kennedy. The youngest man ever elected president, John F. Kennedy made his mark on America during his unusually short term. In those 1,036 days as President of the United States, JFK had a beneficial impact on America through his modern and revolutionary politics, improvements in cultural and economic areas, and advances in foreign policy, but he also influenced unfavorably by creating distrust between the government and the American people. .John Fitzgerald Kennedy ran for president on the Democratic ballot during the 1960 election against Richard Nixon. Despite a hotly contested election, Kennedy emerged victorious. And with that victory came a new era for America. The election of John F Kennedy as the 35th president of the United States marked the first election of a Catholic president – and the only Catholic president to date (“JFK in history”). But Kennedy's religion wasn't the only new thing about his presidency: JFK's campaign and presidency created a completely new image for presidents. Kennedy's youthful, agile appearance and recognizable demeanor opened the door to politics for younger generations, especially those who watched television. The Kennedy-Nixon election marked the beginning of television's important role in presidential elections. Kennedy seemed comfortable, friendly and telegenic (Allen, Durando, Murphy, Hargro and Gelles). For the first time, the president was much more than just a rigid political figure. Kennedy was a new face in American politics. H......middle of paper......2013. Network. 02 June 2014."Speech "Ich Bin Ein Berliner" (26 June 1963)." Miller Center.
