It has become essential for composers to use various techniques to influence an individual's perception of the world. Seen through the eyes of an Asperger's sufferer, Christopher Boone, Mark Haddon's creative novel titled "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time", skillfully portrays how the decisions of significant characters and their relationships shape the overall message about the difficulties of living together with a limiting social condition. This is challenged through Christopher's unique perspective and seen explicitly through the relationship between the protagonist and both of his parents. Haddon employs myriad techniques through concepts of the conflicting nature of love, desperation for a world of order and stability, and the value of truth. Along with recurring allusions to mathematics and science to show the complexity of human interaction, it deftly describes how both relationships attempt to deal with the problem in their daily lives. Storytelling has a profound and formative influence in conveying the complex nature of human communication. This in turn influences how the reader responds to the text. In "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" Christopher's father, Ed, understands his son's inability to interpret human emotions and reasoning and therefore has developed alternative ways in which he can communicate with his son that are accepted by Christopher. This is evident in chapter 31 where Christopher describes “He raised his right hand…we made our fingers and thumbs touch. I don't like hugging people, so let's do this. It means he loves me." Through the simple sentences used in the first-person narrative, the intricate nature of...... middle of paper ......er 237 where Christopher narrates “Christopher, let me hold your hand. just for once. Just for me. Wants? And I said "I don't like people holding my hand." Through the implementation of truncated sentences, Judy's desire and longing for Christopher's affection is exemplified. This allows the respondent to recognize the highly emotional state they are in. The setting in which Christopher and his mother are alone in the bathroom also helps to emphasize the emotional, intimate, and highly sensitive nature of their conversation. Despite how affected Christopher may be to realize that his mother is alive, he is unable to recognize the pleading in his mother's voice and fails to reciprocate the smallest scrap of physical affection towards her due to his desperation to maintain tidy and immutable things, thus exposing the complicated nature of communication between the two.
