Sir William Wallace was a Scottish estate owner who became one of the central leaders during the Wars of Scottish Independence. Along with Andrew Moray, Wallace defeated an English army at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in September 1297 and was granted Protector of Scotland, serving until his death at the Battle of Falkirk in 1298.
