Tropical Rainforest: A tropical rainforest is a wet, humid biome located near the Earth's equator, with the world's largest rainforest found in South America, Southeast Asia and Africa. Rainforests collect 60 to 160 inches of rain throughout the year, with the constant humidity within the rainforest creating the perfect biome for plants and animals thriving in tropical conditions. One of the best environments in the world for biodiversity are tropical rainforests, which contain 15 million species of plants and animals. The humid conditions of tropical rainforests are ideal for bacteria and other microorganisms, these organisms remain active all year round and at their optimal temperature they break down, decomposing forest floor material, for example decayed plants and other dead animals. In other biomes such as deciduous forests, decomposed leaf litter on the forest floor helps provide nutrients to the forest floor, while a tropical rainforest grows so rapidly that plants consume the decomposed leaf litter. This causes the plants to retain most of the nutrients rather than those sold, allowing them to grow larger than deciduous forests, any nutrients absorbed from the soil are lost by the amount of rainfall leaving the soil unfertile and acidic. this particular biome is large and rapidly growing. One of the main reasons why there are so many species and animals living in this biome is due to the constant warm climate. It also provides almost 100% water and food for the animals inside. Small animals, including monkeys, birds, snakes, rodents, frogs and lizards, are more common in tropical rainforests. There is a wide variety of animals within the deciduous forest. In the forest you can find mammals, birds, reptiles, insects and microorganisms; some of the most common animals are bears, deer, elk, squirrels, skunks, and field mice. Due to the extensive hunting seasons, deer and elk within this biome have become nearly extinct. Animals migrate and hibernate to adapt to deciduous forest climates, many birds will migrate to a better climate, and most mammals will hibernate during months when food is limited. Another behavioral adaptation that some animals have learned is to store berries and nuts to last the limited times of food. They use the cold almost like a refrigerator because the cold climate helps preserve berries and nuts for long periods of time.
