Many consumers and small employers are having a difficult time affording health insurance and their medications. Those consumers and employers increasingly have health problems because they cannot afford the high-dose drugs they are prescribed. Due to rising healthcare costs, in 2011, 49 million Americans did not have health insurance. The breakdown of US healthcare spending in 2010 was $2.6 trillion. 51% of the $2.6 trillion went to pay for medical services provided by hospitals and doctors. The other half of the 2.6 trillion has yet to emerge (where it is or where it has gone). Hospitals received the highest pay (30.74%) in 2010, because half of that money was used for medical equipment and the other half to pay for medical services provided. According to an article found on the Aetna website, “prescription drugs grew by only 1.2% while hospital and doctor costs grew by 4.9%.” Prescription drugs receive 10.01% of the $2.6 trillion spent
