Read my lips: no new taxes. These few simple words called upon the American public to elect a man raised in a small town in Massachusetts as the most powerful man in the world. This man is George Herbert Walker Bush. George grew up in Milton, Massachusetts, a small town near Quincy Bay and the Neponset River. His father was a banker and later became a politician who represented Connecticut in the Senate from 1952 to 1963. He attended Phillips Academy of Boarding School in Boston. There he demonstrated his strong sense of leadership by holding many high positions such as senior class president, secretary of the student council, president of the community fundraising group, member of the editorial board of the school newspaper, and captain of the varsity baseball and football teams. Then disaster struck. The Japanese bombed us at Pearl Harbor. Bush decided it was his duty to serve our country and joined the Navy. He became a pilot and was the youngest pilot in the Navy at the time. He fought bravely but had to jump from his plane when it was shot down. He was rescued and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. Upon returning from the war he married Barbara Pierce, his longtime sweetheart from Philip's Academy. He then attended Yale University. He graduated in economics. And he started his own oil business. During his oil career he became interested in politics. In 1959 he became chairman of the Harris County Republican Party. In 1964 he campaigned for senator from Texas. He lost. Two years later, he finally became a U.S. representative in Congress. After a devastating defeat in the 1970 election, President Richard Nixon appointed him as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations... at the center of the card... by which all people are tormented. Having an empathetic president gives our country the soft side it needs. Many see the federal government as large, powerful, and omnipotent. Having people like that makes it more human. Not only does it help those affected by the bill, but it also makes George a thoughtful other. He is not so obsessed with power that he fails to understand people's needs. Throughout the 20th century we have had many presidents, good and bad, but George Herbert Walker Bush stands out as far superior to his competition. For his great works he won the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011. Only the elite can achieve such an honor. It is because of his reserved, diplomatic, protective and empathetic nature that reigns supreme. His presidency will live on for all to remember. As long as the Earth continues to spin, everyone will remember George Herbert Walker Bush.
