Philanthropy supports projects and initiatives that may be too unpopular or controversial to gain broad support from the general public or government.” (Zimmer, n.d., Importance par. 1). In a modern democratic society, philanthropy is considered an important source of funds for projects and organizations. As private entities, they are not beholden to anyone or any government, thus having full control over the choice of projects they wish to support. This is the essence of modern philanthropy. This assignment will identify three well-known philanthropists who are the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Warren Buffet and George Soros. It will then provide details on how their wealth has helped make a difference on the global stage. The first notable philanthropists are Bill and Melinda Gates, who through their foundation donated $15 million to provide means to finance new projects.
