As technology advances, so does war. We first saw the new dangers of modern weapons in World War I, with the introduction of chemical weapons. Then, during World War II, we developed nuclear weapons that would destroy two entire cities. Today, in the war on terrorism, the United States has developed military drones to kill terrorists without endangering our soldiers. These weapons of mass destruction violate human rights because they cause many civilian casualties, subject people to great physical suffering and do not allow for a trial before execution, resulting in the unjust deaths of many people. They can and are used to rapidly massacre many people at once, including civilians and innocent children, with complete disregard for human life. Although we have banned these weapons, they are still used today and pose a great threat to life and our rights as human beings. Drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), are a modern weapon used by the United States and the United Kingdom, especially against terrorists. They aim to kill terrorists in distant locations with precision without endangering human troops. They are a violation of human rights because they kill many innocent people and unjustly kill many adversaries. Drones are said to be precise weapons, but in reality they kill many innocent bystanders, including children. In Pakistan alone, since 2004, 5% of all drone strike victims have been children and 17% have been innocent civilians. They are 2500 people, so they killed around 200 children and 400 civilians. This compares to 1.6% of deaths traced back to high-level terrorists and a real threat. You may be wondering, “What about the other 77% of people killed in drone strikes?” Those... middle of paper... all of them. These modern weapons of mass destruction are one of the most humiliating things man has created. Their only intention is to systematically and cheaply kill as many people as possible. Drones, chemical weapons and nuclear weapons do not respect human rights because they kill many innocent people and children, subject people to extreme suffering and cause large-scale destruction that ruins homes, cities and towns. Further actions should be taken to prevent the use of such weapons, such as international bans on drones, increased controls on preventing the use of chemical weapons, and increased safety precautions in the construction and maintenance of nuclear weapons. If humans wish to maintain peace among all people, no matter where they come from or what they believe, these weapons should never be used, no matter what damage they do.
