Since the beginning of time, human beings have sought to advance and progress themselves. From Eli Whitney's Cotton Gin to Josephine Cochran's automatic dishwasher, technology has continued to improve the lives of humans around the world. Inventions such as the Kelvinator (an early refrigerator) and William Cullen's Freezer brought stability and security to families' lives. These technological advances, and others like them, have been considered exclusively advances. However, progress is defined by Webster as: 1) an advancement or progress 2) development 3) improvement. In reality, the changes brought about by technological progress cannot be defined simply as the progress of the human race. The human race may have gained much from these advances, but it has not stopped to consider all that it has lost. The natural instincts to provide for ourselves have been lost. The ability to provide for ourselves, without the modern conveniences provided by technology, has been lost.
