Topic > The Montessori Method and the Biography of Maria Montessori

The Montessori method was a method developed by an Italian philosopher, Maria Montessori, developed in the year 1897. The Montessori method emphasized independence and freedom within limits and respect for the natural psychological, physical and social development of the child. This indicated that a child was able to learn in the way that suits him best and was allowed to learn as he would like; along with the guidance of a teacher to ensure the child remains focused on the task and/or topic. Maria, born August 31, 1870, was born into a middle-class family with two parents who were well educated for this time period. His father, Alessandro Montessori, was a civil servant and former soldier and his mother, Renilde Stoppani, was an avid reader and well educated. She followed in their footsteps and later became well educated as she took time for her studies and picked up the subject matter that was being taught rather quickly; and would do well in exams. She subsequently applied to the University of Rome and was not admitted due to her gender. She changed her major and instead went to university to study physics, mathematics and natural sciences. After achieving excellent results in her exams, obtaining 8 out of 10, she was admitted to the University of Rome with a score of 137 out of 150 and began studying medicine. Her father did not approve of a woman studying medicine, which especially a man would do. Not having her father's approval or exception to study medicine, communication between Maria and her father was poor. However, her mother, unlike her father, was very proud and often helped her with her studies. After graduating in 1886, she attended the Regio Institut......middle of paper......way of learning, allows them to understand the subject in which it is taught more than in a traditional method because they are not having to learn like other students, each student learns in the best way for himself. Based on what has been stated and what I have found in my research, I believe that by using Montessori, a child's test scores and classroom work would improve because they are able to understand the material in a better way because they are learn in the best way for them. So, while the Montessori Method was developed in 1887 by Maria Montessori, the Montessori Method is still used in education today as a method in which it allows students to learn to the best of their abilities and is able to find new ways of learning . Using the method today also gives students independence in school, allowing them to reach their full potential.
