This article examines how I understand people rationalize the use of skin whitening products. It also examines the forces that have led to this situation of shame and ugliness in any skin tone other than white skin. I also examined the psychological and physical effects of colorism on the people of Ghana. The idea of colorism is not new. Only recently has it been given a name and studied. Countries that have people with different skin tones have always practiced methods to lighten their skin. Due to the growth of technology, mass media, and other modes of communication, people who would not have been exposed to Western ideas of beauty are now bombarded by white beauty. The European ideology of attractiveness and power has taken every step to destroy non-whites. image of them. This allowed people in what we considered Third World countries to relate color to access to resources and privilege (Hunter, 2011). European ideas about beauty had a significant effect on urban Ghana. The people of Ghana have been brainwashed into forgetting who they are. They see themselves as ugly compared to Europeans. This is a mentality shared among some men and women in Ghana. The need to be lighter is also shared between light-skinned and dark-skinned Ghanaians. No matter how light a Ghanaian is, he feels like he can always be lighter. Even though many beauty advertisements are aimed at women, men still feel the need to lighten their skin. Ads for beauty products and cosmetics tell them that the bodies they were born with aren't good enough. They are repeatedly told to change and/or modify their bodies as much as possible to achieve a globally accepted image (Hunter, 201…half of article…chemically and surgically change themselves to achieve beauty). and success, however white people can use natural methods to “enhance” their beauty. This is common in almost all advertisements aimed at non-whites. Because of this, they are repeatedly belittled directly and indirectly by a society that keeps them from their story they are left vulnerable to low self-esteem, depression and misconceptions in a society that gives them a false sense of hope that by manipulating their skin they have the ability to succeed in every way that matters, socially, politically, and family-wide skin lightening in skin whitening are realistic options. The real problem is that beauty as a race is socially constructed and can change at any time. The idea that one can speak in white is not misleading can get but must inherit.
