In the following essay, I will analyze the autistic protagonist Christopher, from Mark Haddon's book The Curious Incident of the Dog at Midnight (2003). It will examine Christopher's inability to understand people's emotions, behave and think differently from others. Christopher, shows a list of characteristics that may suggest signs of Asperger's syndrome (ASD). In this essay I will also highlight the events that occur in Christopher's life as he investigates the mysterious death of his neighbor's dog. During his quest to unravel this incident, he was presented with multiple challenges and how his needs were shaped by these events. Although the book never specifies Christopher's disability, it nevertheless creates circumstances that suggest ASD. The personality of this book is formed in a way that brings the reader into Christopher's world as the events in this book show Christopher's direct experience and the true meaning of the words, felt from the heart, has a lasting effect..
