The objective of this document is to provide "Blue Ocean Strategies" for five different products using the tools and techniques described in Kim and Mauborgne's 2005 book "Blue Ocean Strategy" . Product no. 1: Corn Due to growing health awareness, mass-produced genetically modified corn is facing many non-customers, including international export markets such as China and France (Bloomberg News, 2014, June 11, Deike, J., 2014, March, 17) and therefore the blue ocean strategy for a corn farmer would be:1. Begin the migration to organic farming in stages, due to the investment costs involved (Chase, C., Delate, K. and Johanns, A.M., 2011, July 1). For the inorganic side of the agricultural business, focus on partnering with biofuel, ethanol, bioplastics and alcohol producers.2. Rebrand as a grower of healthy foods, avoid selling corn to producers of high fructose corn syrup or sweeteners, and instead focus on producing organic corn, baby corn, and unique specialty corn varieties like blue corn.3 . Developing capacity towards highly profitable organic farming, selling organic livestock feed and ensuring efficient organic crop rotation (based on data from Brester, G., Huntrods, D., Hansen, R., 2012, April, Organic & Non-GMO Report, 2006, June).4. Begin selling directly to restaurants and whole foods using specialized packaging and advertising by participating in community festivals.5. Build more economical natural organic drying capacity as the main recurring costs of corn storage are drying costs which amount to approximately 7% (Purdue University, 2014).6. Efficiently rotate crops with organic soybeans and/or wheat to revitalize soil and ensure year-round profits (Chase, C., Delate, K., & Johanns, A.M., 2011, July 1).
