Topic > Health Insurance Is for Everyone - 674

President Obama recently passed new health care reforms that require everyone to have some form of insurance. Many citizens have the problem of being forced to purchase insurance that is too expensive; or find affordable insurance policies on a monthly basis, but the copays are too expensive to use their policies. There is also the problem that some people do not believe in Western medicine and practice other healing practices. I believe it is unfair to burden people financially or morally by forcing them to purchase health insurance. I know many people who would rather pay a fine than be forced to do something they don't want or can't afford. THIS LEAD TO THE DISCUSSION WHETHER IT IS OK TO FORCE PEOPLE TO HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE. Obama healthcare is designed to give more Americans access to affordable, quality health insurance and reduce the growth of healthcare spending in the United States according to (obamacarefacts.com). ). Will forcing citizens to sign up for health insurance really help them get quality health insurance or reduce their healthcare spending? I believe we need to fix our systems and the way doctors treat people; and perhaps more people would be willing to have health insurance and use it. For example, I have insurance through my husband's work, but the copays are so high that we can't afford to use it regularly. When we go we are not treated as if our time and money matter, for example I went with severe abdominal pain and was told I am overweight, go home and lose weight and I should be fine. Why would anyone want to pay high insurance rates and copays monthly to be treated this way? If people were not rushed and treated with respect and dignity, more people would have no problem paying for services. Trying... middle of paper... paying for health insurance would increase jobs in the medical field. The LA Times reports the opposite: “Among the questions being asked is: If health care spending is rising so fast, why is health care job growth flat? As Austin Frakt of Boston University puts it, the data “suggests that Americans have recently invested much of the national economy in health care without moving the needle on the rate of growth of real human resources (jobs) devoted to providing assistance". (LA times) So if mandating health insurance on American citizens was supposed to help reduce costs and create an opening for more jobs, why isn't it because, like me, many Americans think we should have freedom Again, if we tried to fix the system of treating people and the cost of insurance, we wouldn't have to force people to get insurance.
