The topic I'm dealing with is gender power. Through all forms of media it is obvious to see that we live in a world obsessed with sexuality. Magazine advertisements, magazine images, commercials, and even Internet ads are shown in a sexual manner, and women are usually subjected to sexualization in these advertisements. The media is the most powerful source of how we see men and women. Throughout our daily lives, the media implants its messages in our minds like a disease. All forms of media communicate gendered images, many of which perpetuate unrealistic, stereotypical, and limiting perceptions. Women are underrepresented, which implies that men are the cultural standard and women are not as important or appear invisible to everyone. Men and women are portrayed in stereotypical ways that reflect and support socially approved gender views. Relationships between men and women emphasize traditional roles and normalize violence against women. There is a lack of women in the media, only about 5% of women are television writers, managers and producers. There are commercials that show women as sexual objects, for example, consider the Ultra Tune commercial (car service centers) which shows a car that leans from side to side and has fogged up windows and a car of police driving thinking the woman is having sex in the car. The policeman comes over and checks and she only has problems with the handbrake. Men are led to believe that women's sexual image is what matters and what makes them "attractive." With this sexualized image being portrayed in the media, it becomes difficult for women to accept their own beauty and constantly deal with images in the media that are... middle of paper... and where women can be strong and sexy without repercussions negative. The most famous film and television actresses are becoming younger, taller and thinner. Some even fainted on set due to lack of food. Women's magazines are full of articles insisting that if they can lose those last twenty pounds, they will have it all: the perfect marriage, loving children, great sex, and a rewarding career. In conclusion, the explicit use of unrealistic looking women to sell products is putting pressure on girls to try to achieve these impossible looks in order to be more attractive to their male counterparts. Using a woman's sexuality to advertise products creates a purely gendered way of capturing the market without thinking about what is actually being advertised. Women should be portrayed as strong and powerful or at least equal to males.
