Topic > Theme of Honesty in the Crucible - 704

In Arthur Miller's book "The Crucible" there is an inadequacy of honesty which is a very important characteristic that everyone must learn. In this essay I write to show that a lack of honesty is bad and was widespread in Salem and that very few people remained truthful during the Salem witch trials. Dishonesty in the Crucible would soon lead to the death and incarceration of many Salem residents. The accused lied and accused other people to keep themselves out of trouble from the authorities, but this took the lives of many innocent victims. In Miller's book dishonesty is expressed by almost everyone included in The Crucible such as Abigail, Mary, and Elizabeth. My first example of dishonesty In the Salem witch trials, Abigail lies. Abigail also lied many other times throughout the show, always in her own self-interest. My second example from the Salem witch trials is Mary, who tries to be a goody-two-shoes about almost everything, but turns out to be a liar along with everyone else. Mary lies when she says "you are the devil's man, Proctor", she is actually lying after realizing that everyone is starting to think that she is a culprit in court and that she might be accused, so she decided to blame it on the prosecutor to save herself and to make sure she leaves clean and safe. Mary also lies many other times in the crucible, in ways that she didn't really need to lie about until the end, when everyone was being tried in court. My final example of dishonesty is Elizabeth Proctor, a woman famous for her honesty and errorlessness throughout her life in Salem. Elizabeth is known to be a woman of good example in Salem and also a very kind person. She too was admired by many, but as the tracks develop, she becomes a victim of dishonesty. “My husband is a good man, sir. ("Then he hasn't walked away from you. Look at me! For all you know, he has John
