American students lag behind in science scores compared to international scores in other countries. It's well known that science can help take civilization to the next level, but it all starts in school. "Science is a way of thinking much more than a body of knowledge." - Carl Sagan. Imagining the future revolves around the skills taught in a science lesson. The 21st century is expected to produce aircraft such as jetpacks and flying bicycles and many other wacky inventions. Based on science scores, it appears that Americans will have to wait another century before mind-blowing inventions are introduced or until other countries meet the goal. America ranks fifteenth in science and twenty-fifth in mathematics. Countless sums of money have been devoted to education reforms, but where should the money go to improve that trench? Many companies and leaders have a solution to the problem. America is in a difficult position when it comes to science education, but there has been great participation from leaders who can solve the problem and keep America at the forefront of technology, as it has been for centuries precedents. American students lag in science scores internationally. The Washington Post described a trend in which 40 out of 65 countries and economies grew in relation to the length of time students were educated and the increase in workers. The international test is called Program for International Student Assessment or PISA for short. Assess students in math, English and science. America ranked fifteenth in all sections, while rivals top the list.(1) Shanghai is listed with the highest scores in all sections and focuses primarily on teacher and player preparation. ..... of paper……ss.” (Charette)Many people complain about being in the 21st century and not being able to see flying cars as the norm. Most people don't realize that there is still a lot of groundwork to be done before these “mind-blowing” inventions come to life. One aspect is that there needs to be a greater variety of lessons for mathematics and science. It is necessary to research and experiment more in order to produce more. If the lesson is more interesting and students really want to go to class, science education as a whole will be positively affected. Students interested in the possibilities of the future must realize that they are the only ones who can change the future. We will only be able to have flying cars if someone learns to defy gravity. There is still a long way to go before anyone can find the “answer” to all of science's questions.
