Technology in Today's World Online communication has impacted human relationships in a truly remarkable way. Anyone with access to the Internet can converse with other people regardless of physical distance and even language barrier. In most societies, people express their opinions online about social, political or artistic events. However, as with other human activities, online communication has a paradoxical character. Although designed to strengthen and facilitate contacts, it has proven counterproductive in some respects. Many parents feel that their children are detached from everyday family life while the children themselves struggle to form real connections with their peers due to the elusiveness of online identity. From a more social point of view, online communication has also influenced the human side of the teacher-student relationship, making it more intangible and impersonal. Are we becoming less human due to online communication? With the advancements in technology, children have become isolated from the rest of the family. They spend most of their time texting, surfing the Internet and playing video games even on special occasions. Due to lack of communication between parents and children, family relationships become distant. Children usually do not pay attention to what their parents say and in this way parents may miss the opportunity to guide or advise their children on what are appropriate behaviors in life. Technology makes it easier to connect with each other, but this useful tool also pushes children and teenagers to live in a parallel world; the virtual world. Young people's dependency on electronic devices should be a concern for everyone in society... middle of paper... and Derar (2010) claims that 51% of participating online students mentioned the lack of immediate feedback as a disadvantage of online classes, while 46% of them cited the lack of live interaction as one of the biggest difficulties. According to Quetin Deakin, the problem is not technology; that's how we use it (292). I agree with his opinion because all technological devices help us explore and learn new things every day. Email, text messages, Whatsapp and all types of social media facilitate the way people interact with each other, regardless of the distance that separates them. Whether or not new technological advances can negatively affect us is in our hands. I think technology has become a necessary tool in today's world and we as human beings should take advantage of it by trying to avoid all the negative effects.
