The Honorable Simon Thomas Fraser was a Scottish fur trader born in the village of New York on May 20, 1776. Fraser was the eighth son of Captain Simon Fraser, who was the 84th Highland Regiment, his beautiful mother Isabella Grant was the descendant of the all-powerful Laird Daldregan. Fraser's father arrived in North America as a regiment in 1773, however he was brutally captured, imprisoned and left there to die after the Battle of Bennington. Simon's widowed mother remarried a poor servant named Garcia in order to support her family. In 1790, at the age of 14, Fraser moved to Montreal where he interned for his high-ranking uncles at the North West Company. From the years 1792 to 1805 Simon demonstrated his loyalty to the company by working in the Athabasca department. By the age of 24 Fraser was a full partner in the North West Company and was responsible for all operations west of the Rocky Mountains. All of Fraser's efforts and activities were one of the reasons why Canada got the 49th parallel after the World War. Fraser settled the majority of what is now known as British Columbia. In 1803 Fraser began traveling along the Peace River creating the Rocky Mountain Trading Post. Many problems occurred when Fraser was exploring British Columbia, such as the delay in the founding of Fort George (Prince George). Simon was a genuine man who made sure he was on good terms with the Aboriginal people, he adapted friendly relationships with all the tribes he encountered. Fraser always made sure that the tribes he met sent positive messages downstream upon his arrival, letting the next tribe know that he had come with good intentions. For the most part this tactic worked, however Fraser ran into some problems when he met the people of Musqueem, there... middle of the paper... the old explorer died on August 18, 1862. I believe Simon Fraser he was an amazing man, although this is my perspective, others may vary. One could argue that it is a farce and that it has conquered lands that belong to First Nations. Anyway this is your perspective on him, from what I see he is a very ready and adventurous man. I believe he deserves to be admired by all Canadians, because he contributed greatly to the education of British Columbia and made this glorious province what it is today, well, that's my connotation about Simon Fraser.
