The purpose of the individual cultural assessment is to gain a greater understanding of the values and attitudes of another cultural group through an in-depth interview with a member of the group of interest. For this assignment, the interviewee is a forty-eight-year-old Muslim woman originally from Bangladesh. Based on an extensive interview with Ms. SK, the paper discusses many topics including cultural affiliations, cultural sanctions and restrictions, religion and spirituality, health-related beliefs and practices, as well as traditional patterns and ideas within the Bengali Muslim community. Furthermore, celebrations and rituals will be explored and analyzed for their significance in Bangladeshi culture. SK was born in Chittagong, Bangladesh in 1966. Her parents were born in the same city and she still has extended family in Chittagong. His father was the first in his family to pursue education and would become an ophthalmologist in his 30s. In 1974, Ms. SK moved to London, England with her parents and two sisters while her father attended medical school. By 1984, Ms. SK's father had become a prominent eye surgeon with a successful private practice in Saudi Arabia. Ms. SK moved to Florida at the age of eighteen and completed her master's degree in business administration at the University of Florida in 1990. In traditional Bengali culture, young women are not encouraged to date casually. Although Ms. SK's parents were open-minded and westernized compared to their peers; Ms SK was expected to marry a Bangladeshi man through a matching process.
