Knows his uppercase and lowercase alphabet. He also knows the sounds corresponding to those letters. TC can identify long and short vowels and identify blends orally and in text. He is somewhat inconsistent in choosing them as he reads. The teacher states that all his functional skills are age appropriate. As he developed as a reader, his confidence also increased and this allowed him to attempt to read almost anything. The average fluency for a 2nd grade student is 52 wcpm correct and TC can now read 141/200 words from a 2nd grade word list. He likes to talk about what he has read and can answer basic "wh" questions. One area he needs to work on is his fluency and answering higher level comprehension questions about his reading.
