What do we think of when we hear the words code of conduct? There will be many differences of opinion between different individuals, but I think that's basically what an organization expects from its members. Almost every organization, whether it is a Fortune 500 company, a small restaurant chain, a coffee shop, or even a fraternal order, all have expectations about how each of its members or employees should behave with each other and when dealing with customers external to the organization. . Most of these principles will be set out by an organization in their Code of Conduct which will most likely need to be reviewed and signed by you before becoming an employee of the company. Most organizations will impose some type of sanction for those who break established codes of conduct. For any company or restaurant that is in the public eye, establishing a good code of conduct for all its employees is undoubtedly an absolute prerequisite for having good order and discipline in the workplace. The company must protect its interests by ensuring that the employee does not do anything that is not in the best interests of the company and could damage the company's reputation and business. General Motors believes that the private personal activities of its employees are not truly GM's concern as long as they do not adversely affect the company's attendance, job performance, working relationships with coworkers, or public image (Snoeyenbos, Almeder, & Humber , 2001). Any business owner must have a high set of standards and principles that they believe in and that they believe will keep their business strong and remain competitive in the marketplace. Most organizations will outline what they expect from their employees in a code of c. ..... middle of paper ...... individuals following specific diets due to a medical condition or personal choice. We all know that more and more people are choosing to be more health conscious and if there's nothing on the menu that appeals to them, chances are you'll lose that customer. An organization with good ethics, social responsibility and a strong code of conduct, will remain a major competitor in the designated market and provide exceptional service to its customers. It is essential to have a set of standards for everyone in the workplace to follow, so that your organization can continue to thrive with success. Striving for excellence across the board, from top to bottom, will make your code of conduct stand out from others and keep employee loyalty high because they will be happy and excited to be part of your winning team.
