Victor Frankenstein: Maybe he plays the role of God? In the book of Frankenstein, Victor is known for playing the role of God. Some people strongly disagree with the position of anyone playing God. I definitely agree with the idea that Victor plays God because he creates life, he is not religious and it serves the purpose it was given. Human life is believed to be impossible to create unless you are God. Does Victor take life into his own hands by creating something that people believe to be completely impossible? To begin with, Victor attended the University of Ingolstadt where he continued his education outside of his hometown of Geneva. Shortly after his arrival he discovered what he wanted to study and became very interested in it. Mary Shelly states: "From that day natural philosophy, and especially chemistry, in the broadest sense of the word, became almost my only occupation." (35) His constant thirst for knowledge led him to an abundance of research and he began to achieve everything that was put in front of him. M. Walden said: “Chemistry is that branch of natural philosophy in which the greatest improvements have been and can be made; it is for this reason that I have made it my peculiar study; but at the same time I have not neglected the other branches of science." (Shelly 34) Victor uses what his teacher says as encouragement that helps him have more resources to create the monster, such as a broader knowledge of all aspects of science. With all the knowledge he gained over time, including an interest in the human structure, Victor put together everything he knew and created life using repurposed body parts and assembled them together to create a giant seven-foot creature . His... half of the paper... and for me; has decided my future destiny.” (Shelly 34) Victor has an interest in continuous food for knowledge and continually obtains education every day. It's human nature to do what you love and Victor does it by putting his expertise to good use. Victor states, “When I found such amazing power in my hands, I hesitated for a long time as to how I should use it.” (Shelly 38) He realizes the power placed in his hands and takes advantage of it, I mean who wouldn't? He uses everything he knows to create something so powerful that everyone thought was impossible. Victor then demonstrates that it is possible, in this imaginary world of course, that it is possible to bring things to life. Anyone can play God and at some point in everyone's life you take on the role of playing God, which is the main idea that Victor Frankenstein shows to the world.
