Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a disorder that has been most commonly diagnosed in adolescence, and the group most at risk is women aged 15 to 22 years (Hodes, et al. , 2000). In the United States, the incidence of anorexia nervosa is estimated to be between 0.5% and 2% of the general population and 0.8 million among the youth population (Fisherman, 2006). AN is a disease that has been around for quite some time but has recently become progressively more relevant in today's society. This increase could be due to social factors such as pressure to fit society's ideal body image, environmental, psychological, or other social factors could contribute to the more rapid development of AN. The exact causes of this disorder are unknown, but anorexia has become the third most common chronic disease among adolescents and cases of AN are currently increasing in Western countries (ANAD, 2014). Furthermore, AN has the highest level of mortality among psychiatric diseases. and the persistence of this morbidity is immensely harmful to the person affected by the disorder, as well as their family and close friends (EDC, 2014). Eating disorders are real, multifaceted, destructive, and overwhelming conditions that ultimately have serious consequences for the individual's health, productivity, and relationships (NEDA, 2014).
