Everyone subconsciously follows the crowd and obeys until one person comes out to help, then everyone helps. With obedience to authority it's the same thing as feeling like you have to obey even if what you might do is inhumane or offensive to others. Both of these experiments show people trying to follow and feeling like they have to comply and do what they are told, whether it is an unconscious/silent agreement or a spoken agreement.
